A warm welcome at the home page of the so called "Heidenturmkirchen" (churches with a "pagan tower")

The so called "Heidenturmkirchen" are located in Rheinhessen, a region of the German Bundesland Rhineland-Palatinate, south of the Rhineland-Palatinate capital Mainz. The particularity of these churches are their church tower cupolas which were created in an oriental style. They remind of building components of oriental churches. All the churches were erected in the time of the first crusade in the 12. century and offer an extraordinary experience of a unique building tradition. Two of the churches (in Alsheim and Dittelsheim) are undergoing reconstruction currently and will be open to the public afterwards as a very special destination for guests interested in historic church buildings. All churches are open to the public, please don't hesitate to step inside or ask for the local parish priest who will be happy to let you in.

Additionally, the historic cemetery park at the Alsheim church, dated of the 19th century, is place of unique charisma. The park offers an outstanding experience of a hidden place full of atmosphere.

Have a look at the pictures published on this site in order to get a first impression of the singularity!!
